Zoo
Trixie took her first trip to the North Carolina Zoo this past weekend. Now, having lived in the Bronx for 4 years, Jenn and I admit that it's no Bronx Zoo, but what does Trixie care? She got to see an elephant. And here she is waving at some kind of deer or a bear maybe. I missed the habitat signage. For TTU locals, the zoo is a fun place to visit, and we're definitely going back; however, the ashtrays scattered throughout the exhibits seem a little behind the times.Photo taken September 6th, 2004. | |

I think that's a deer. The antlers don't look very moose or elk-like. Posted by: Cat at September 7, 2004 03:27 AM

So Ben does this means she has started waving to you? I know you said you were looking forward to it... beautiful pictures, look forward to fresh stories. :-) Posted by: Dave at September 7, 2004 09:36 AM

Yes, she waves at everyone now. (And while at the zoo, she waved at all the animals. I was disappointed that none of them -- not even the primates -- waved back.) We're ready for new stories too. We'll be starting back this coming Monday, September 13th. Posted by: benmac at September 7, 2004 10:00 AM

Ben, I am very sorry that the animals didn't wave to you. I was at the National Zoo this weekend, and the only excitement was when the gorillas angrily threw themselves against the glass. Cat, I am pretty sure that thing is an elk. (If you check out the zoo website, it's the only animal in the "plains" that isn't a bear, buffalo, or wolf). He also looks a lot like the picture! :) Posted by: becky at September 7, 2004 10:23 AM

All the elk on the "Watch out for elk!" signs in the canadian rockies had more elaborate antler structures... but I went and found some pictures of elk and everything makes sense now. :) Posted by: Cat at September 7, 2004 10:39 AM

Mark, what a beautiful baby you have!!! I looked at the website and also saw a gorgeous wedding gown! Congrats to the (headless) couple for a sweet little girl! Who took the pic? Maybe you're both very tall ! (just kidding) Mooie Rooie Posted by: Marjie at September 7, 2004 06:22 PM

Kids and zoo's just fit together dont they. I took my new "bonus" son zack to the jackson zoo in Ms this past weekend also. Zack is just about to turn 1, so he loved it. The zoo isnt what it used to be though, they only had a few monkeys, bears and a tiger, they used to have so many more animals. We are going to go the New Orleans Zoo soon. I love it. SURELY they don't expect that kind of railing to keep little Trixie-sized people from falling into the Elk Pit!?!?! Posted by: Lindsay at September 7, 2005 10:25 AM

Nah, I'm going to guess the outside railing has a plexi-glass under it. Posted by: Kristin at September 7, 2005 09:00 PM
