Welcome MSNBC Countdown

Thanks for stopping by. The last couple of posts have been about getting ready for the show, but beyond that there really are a lot of baby stories. If you’d like to see an overview of the site, please check out Trixie Update 101.

UPDATE 10:00pm Haha. Well, I was under the impression the piece was going to be a littttle bit longer. You wouldn’t believe how long they filmed here. It was about 6 hours, plus another at the hospital. I’m just glad we weren’t on the Oddball section. We weren’t, right? And yes, Trixie went bonkers when she appeared on TV.

Yay! I just saw the first glimpse of you all- in a preview for the rest of the show! How exciting.

  2. Summer says:

That was really great! Much better than only pictures, and the only complaint i have is, i wish it was longer 🙂

  3. BCchicago says:

    Hey Ben,
Long time reader, first time poster.
Congratulations!! I wish the show was a little longer, but it was definitely fun. (They were there all day for that amount of time on TV? I think that deserves a productivity chart of some sort).
P.S. Please don’t take the advice of that “expert” and put passwords on this site.

  4. Heather says:

Did we get to hear Trixie’s voice? I forgot to listen for it! Kyle laughed during the whole episode. I think he has a crush on Trixie!

  5. Erin says:

what a good story… my only complaint- I wanted to hear Trixie’s voice!

  6. Malinda says:

Yea i feel the same way i wish it was longer it was great nice to see ya on tv. That was great you did a wonderful job you didnt even seem on bit nerves. Great Job you three.

  7. Summer says:

We didn’t hear Trixie talk on it at all… but maybe sometime Ben will put something on here!!

  8. Nina says:

Yay I saw it! I had to stay at my parents house to watch it on their tv because of my fiance but I saw it nonetheless. Hehee!

BTW I think it would be great if Trixie guest starred on Stargate, she could be from a newly discovered planet or whatever (i don’t really pay attention to the show) where she is the queen of adorable beings in cool winter hats and furry coats! Then maybe I can get him interested and have someone to talk about the site with. Not that I don’t already but he’s just not as interested unless shes a car or some sci fi creature. Sigh…

I think your next plan should be to creat your own Trixie Tv show, you guys did great!

  9. Erika says:

The piece was great Ben, but host (not the reporter) should be banned from the site forever. Saying that people don’t care about the details, is just plain wrong; and then to call it the TrixieCam, did she even listen to the piece?

  10. John says:

erg. My friend who is taping the show for me isn’t going to give me the tape until tomorrow. How will I get to sleep?

  11. Christine says:

Ahhhh….I missed it….totally forgot to set the DVR :(((

Anyone willing to share the tape in the Triangle area, I’d love to see it!

  12. Katherine says:

Longtime reader here (Ben, I once emailed you to ask a silly Photoshop question)…that was a great segment! It was awesome to see Trixie in motion and on TV. She is such a cutie. I did think they were a little harsh with the lead in but they eased up once the story started. Congrats to you!

  13. Maureen says:

Trixie looks just like you, Ben. 🙂

Thanks for that larger glimpse into yours, Jen’s and Trixie’s world.

  14. Becky says:

I watched the show and it was awesome, although like everyone else I was left asking for more!! Ben, don’t take this the wrong way, but there was lots of Ben, a little Jenn, and not nearly enough Trixie in that segment. I did find it amusing though, that you have broken all of the blogging “rules” that they mentioned. It’s a good thing, because otherwise, people like me couldn’t have gotten into the site!! Keep up the good work.

  15. Cindy says:

Hi! I’ve read your blog for a long time, but I’ve never posted. Just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed the piece on TTU. You have every right to be VERY proud. I really enjoyed the glimpse into your lives…although I really wish the segment was longer. LOL!

  16. Summer says:

Becky, i think the thing is that, the show only put about 4 minutes of it on air… If they had put more on, we would have seen a lot of all 3 of them! Unfortunatly, they only did a few minutes…

  17. Tanya says:

Hey there! I was unable to watch the show…I don’t get MSNBC on my satellite (in Canada)….Ben is there a way I see the show online that you know of? I would really like to see it!

    Thanks a bunch!! 🙂

  18. benmac says:

    > Katherine said:
    > I did think they were a little harsh with the lead
    > in but they eased up once the story started

Holy Moly, I know. We had a huge sinking feeling as the host kept on going on and on. But then thankfully the ads-on-pregnant-belly story came next. After that they were really nice with our piece 🙂

  19. JenAlam says:

For those of you that get MSNBC but just missed the segment, MSNBC repeats Countdown at 12am–at least on the east coast, so you may be able to catch it after all!

  20. Christine says:

Yeah! Thanks for the info….I’ll tape it then!

  21. Jamie says:

Just watched the show (hooray for TiVo) and thought it was cute. The angle seemed to be less about Trixie’s family and more about the baby blogging phenomenon. That’s cool, I guess, but I would have liked to see more about you all.

The anchor (the one in the orange suit, not the one who did the Trixie segment) was a total goofball, though. The “TrixieCam” comment was kind of misleading. Did they ever mention the URL for the site? I must have missed it if they did, but I wasn’t listening for it.

  22. Debi says:

Everybody previous is right…..Great story. Nice to see Trixie’s parents-what they are like, but more of Trixie would have been perfect. But we observers already know her.
    How proud you must be!

  23. hillary says:

That was so exciting! It was quite an event over at our house. The whole countdown suspense was killing me. They could have used a little less deer with its poor head stuck through things and a little bit more super cute Trixie action. Oscar is worried that now that Trixie is famous she’s going to go for the celebrity babies, you know the Pilot Inspektor types, and he won’t stand a chance.

  24. I’m not crazy about how they led in the piece. They had a story about a woman selling her pregnant belly to advertisers on eBay and then said, “And if you think that’s odd, see what some parents are doing AFTER the baby is born!”

But it was a great piece, and it was a blast to see Trixie in her full Trixie glory. Congratulations!

Oh, and congratulations on your mention in The New York Times as well!

  25. Amy, mother of Emily says:

Congrats to all on the MSN piece… and Congrats too on the NYT piece that appears in today’s paper. Isn’t it nice to have your hard work recognized?

  26. John says:

Okay, for all you folks who missed it/don’t have cable – I’ve captured the Trixie segment and made a 19 MB QuickTime movie of it. There’s a BitTorrent link, as well as links to where one can download the software necessary to get and play the movie here.

Ben, if you want me to send you a DVD of the segment, I can do that as well.

  27. Rozanne says:

I really enjoyed the segment, too. But I have to admit, I was disappointed that they seemed to miss the “coolness” of the site. For example, I thought for sure that they would point out how amazing your pictures are, Ben.

  28. John says:

There have been some problems with the BitTorrent file. If you downloaded it before and it didn’t work, try downloading it again – I changed the settings. Hopefully it will work now.

  29. John says:

Okay – problem solved. People who wtried before will have to go back and start over. Sorry for the confusion.

  30. John says:

John…..YOU ARE AMAZING, I can not thank you enough for the clip that you got! I just watched the segment and loved it. Thank you thank you. I dont get MSNBC here on my great Canadian satelite. Thank You SOOOOO much!

Ben the segment was great….glad I got to see it. I am very happy that you have let all of us in to your world. I have no kids of my own but now I have a glimpse of what raising a child is like for other ppl besides my brother. Thank you.

  31. John says:

I am apparently talking to myself. Time to go to bed.

  32. Tanya says:

No John…you arent talking to yourself….I was out of it when I wrote that – long day at work. I accidently put your name in there…I was thinking of who’s name to write to say thank you and obviously wrote your name in! sorry 🙂

    Thanks again!!!!!

  33. Kelly says:

Is there a link on MSNBC.com to your web site or your segment?

  34. Nay says:

I saw the show, it was great to see you all, but like everyone else, I wish it was longer, and I did not like that anchorwoman AT ALL. I hope to never see her again.

  35. Sarah G. says:

The segment can be seen at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036677/

I have been checking religiously all weekend hoping it would come up, and it did! Trixie was so cute. Ben, you handsome devil, we need more TPODs that include you and your beautiful wife! 😉

  36. John says:

FYI – I will be closing down the BitTorrent seed of the Trixie segment tomorrow, since MSNBC has posted a segment on their web page. Thanks to the faithful few who have kept BitTorrent open long enough to let other folks grab the file.

  37. Leslie says:

Sarah’s link worked beautifully except I can get no sound. Anyone out there who can help me? Yes, I am on a PC of course. And yes I adjusted my volume, at least the volume in my task bar / control panel. Any hints, please email me.

  38. aidens momma says:

    im with leslie…..no sound either

  39. lori says:

I have to admit, I had to watch the MSNBC playback again before I could make a fair judgement & post a comment. I felt the lead-in & all the build-up to your story was misleading and I kept getting this terrible feeling (watching the 1st time) they weren’t going to properly portrait the true meaning of TTU and the story behind it.

So glad I watched it again b/c my initial reaction was somewhat tainted with the surrounding stories. My husband and I were disappointed in the length, too. Way too much time spent on the deer & the gal’s stomach, not to mention the 1/2 hour of depressing news beforehand – where they should have devoted that time to the wonderful & heartfelt story you had to offer. They did a fantastic job and Congrats to the MacNeillllllll’s. (Did I get the spelling right?)

Since you can play it off the internet (for the time being), is there a way to record it for Trixie to see it…again…years from now?

I also noticed they didn’t mention the URL. Was site traffic up the last few days?

  40. Jenie says:

Hey Ben…I just wanted to let you know that Trixie’s pic is on the MSN.com web page. It’s in the video highlights section. I’m sure it’s just a recap of Friday’s countdown, but I just wanted everyone to know! I saw the picture and was like..hey..that kid looks familiar!! =o)

  41. Jenie says:

Ok..I did just watch the clip. It is from Countdown…so if anyone missed it..that’s where to go to see it!

  42. Marne says:

I just caught the MSNBC video segment, what a great site. My husband and I are both web dev/junkies and thought it would be totally fun to chart out diapers/feedings/naps/etc. of our newborn. Your telemetry-based charts are exactly what we had in mind, unfortunately we do not have the time to set them up. So we will just check out Trixie’s. 🙂

    Kudos to your effort here!

  43. newyearsmom says:

i discovered ttu via the new york times just days after the msnbc show aired – so i didn’t get to see it. any chance you could include a clip on the blog? maybe i should netflix the episode? furthermore, i congratulate you on your patience. not only with your daughter, but especially with all the commentors you have, now that you are so popular . . .

  44. Jo says:

On vacation when you were on MSNBC and missed the show. Tried the msn link but couldn’t get it, must be too late. Sure sorry I missed it. Took awhile for me to catch up on all your news. Enjoyed it tho! Loved the onsie-boots pic.
She looked like she was modeling!!!

  45. benmac says:

For everyone who missed the segment: Unfortunately, I don’t have permission to host a copy on this site. I looked to see if the MSNBC streaming file was still avavilable, but they have turned it off. So at this point there’s not much I can do… I’m sorry 🙁
