In a word, carrots. We are feeding her food twice a day now. A frustrating and humorous proposition that is logistically equivalent to trying to tie your shoe with just one hand. You actually need about five: one to hold the spoon, a couple to keep Trixie’s hands from ‘helping’ with the spoon, another to keep her from suddenly jerking forward or twisting around and one more in waiting to try to catch some of the mush she squishes out of her mouth that then rolls right off the bib. I’m sure we’ll get better at it, but for the time being feeding Trixie is much messier, though not as disgusting, than most of her diaper accidents.

To keep her from “helping”, try giving her another spoon to play with. Sometimes that will keep them from “helping”. Of course, then she will learn the “baby-drops-spoon-and-daddy-mommie-picks-it-back-up” game, but you may actually get more into her little mouth.
skip the cute little bibs- grab a dishtowel- if it has a snap or a tie to keep it around her neck, all the better- the bigger the dishtowel, the better this works- tie it around her neck, then spread it over her shoulders, trapping her hands (give her a toy to grasp underneath) then tuck it in her waistband- after the meal, you have a clean baby and a little more food in her mouth- of course, half of it will still be on her face and in her hair, but that’s the fun of being a baby
Amanda, Elisa: These are some great suggestions. Thanks guys! Before you posted I was leaning toward the duct tape and plastic sheeting route but it’s kind of labor intensive.
