We are having a great time here with Trixie. She refuses to sleep more than 2 hours at a time and then she goes into ballistic screaming mode right around 3am. She’ll open her mouth, turn bright red and then scream like we were feeding her feet first into a wood chipper. She screams sooo loud and sooo long that she runs out of scream, and just lies there with her mouth open and her whole body shaking. It’s unnerving to wake up to that.

You poor thing! Could be a case of colic, although the only information I have on the subject is from research — both my children didn’t have it. However, leaving herself almost breathless and with her body shaking could be something else entirely. I would certainly take her to your doctor ASAP. The good news is that if it is colic (excessive gas buildup), it usually goes away between 2-3 months of age. Try to ensure she burps enough after each meal and limit the amount of crying she does in the day as it’s believed that colic is caused primarily from inhaling excess air while crying. Good luck.
